Minerals of Odo Kas
The most prominent use of minerals in Odo Kas is as the currency of the realm. While the precise type and names of coins vary from city to city, the currency of Moru Kel is fairly typical:

Occasionally found in circulation is the old Skandaran eclipse, a coin made of electrum and valued at 1/2 the value of a gold crown. The platinum empyreal is used in large business transactions, but at a value of 10 gold crowns is rarely seen in general circulation — the old Skandaran empyreal made of orichalcum is too valuable to circulate any longer. Currency of jade and precious stones is sometimes found in other regions.
Other minerals and materials of note:
- Adamantine, a black alloy stronger than any other alloy known. Made by the dwarves of the Akkur Mons, the secret of adamantine manufacture has remained safe even against the attacks of the most determined diviners.
- Agate, to enhance the senses and grant intelligence, as well as to protect the mind from negative dreams.
- Amber, used in the production of lightning
- Amethyst, value for its ability to nullify potent toxins, including preventing the effects of alcohol
- Bronze, long a symbol of Urek military might. Although it’s being replaced by iron in cheaper arms and armor, bronze is still symbolic of the Sentinels of Koros, and the king’s own personal guard go by the name The Bronze.
- Orichalcum, a type of bronze made with the addition of cinnabar. Orichalcum is notable as being particularly effective against supernatural creatures, including demons and werebeasts.
- Cinnabar, a rare ore with mild antimagical powers. Cinnabar was mined by the old Urek, but those mines are long-since exhausted; the high elves of Goeyan are the sole remaining source of the valuable metal. The rose stone of Moru Kel gets its color from trace amounts of cinnabar, though far too little of it remains to be usefully extracted.
- Diamond, important to magics involving the production, recall, or transferrence of the soul as well as perfect splitting of light into chromatic components.
- Iron, used in dweamors that grant strength or immobilize foes.
- Ivory, used in many divinations.
- Jacinth, useful in magics of fire and light.
- Jade, useful in the production of illusions and as an amulet to grant musical skill
- Lead, prized by the secretive for its anti-divinatory abilities. Boxes of lead, cinnabar, or rose stone are used to prevent secrets being found out by prying eyes.
- Mercury, used in spells of transmutation, motion and quickness
- Mithril, a strong, light metal most valued in the making of armor. Mithril is virtually exclusive to the Goeyan, though they have occasionally made gifts of mithril objects to those who prove themselves worthy allies of the elves.
- Moonstone, apocryphally considered to be part of the fallen moon of Koros. Moonstone is quite rare and has many magical properties; it’s used in the manufacture of powerful artifacts and serves as a source of power for wizards and sorcerers.
- Ruby, used to call upon dark powers and to trap the soul, and in some flame magicks.
- Sapphire, used as protective/hiding wards and to grant knowledge
- Silver, useful for religious ceremonies and the inscription of magical sigils. Silver weapons can harm the supernatural, but are generally too soft to be useful.
- Star metal or meteoric iron, which like orichalcum is effective against the supernatural. Unfortunately it can only be manufactured from extremely rare deposits made from fallen meteors.
- Turquoise, (from tur-Quayshi, “from Quayshi”), an aid to travelers be they afoot, on horseback, or transiting between planes of existence.
