Races of Odo Kas
There are numerous prominent races scattered across the continent of Odo Kas. Among them:
- Dwarves have an ancestral homeland in the Akkur Mons mountain. Their southern compatriots in the Burkhdyn Gazar are believed to have split off at the time of the Ravaging. Dwarves are often found living among humans and elves in larger cities, as well.
- Elves are believed to originate in Goeyan far to the west, but have made a wide diaspora from there. Far to the south of Doma lies Quayshi, another land of noble high elves. The wood elves of Tarima are the nearest to Moru Kel, with wild compatriots in the forests to their south. The savage Rovers are a particularly sad example of how a cultured people can regress. Elves are found throughout the continent, often breeding with humans. The sagara of Mezzi Island are a uniquely aquatic branch of elves.
- Goliaths are found on both sides of the Strait of Shandar, but in very different ways: those to the south are untamed savages, while those to the north form a part of the complicated Burkhydn Gazar mountain culture.
- Humans are found throughout Odo Kass. Major regions include the former Urek Empire (notably Moru Kel, Saffa, and Esmi). Mezzi Island and Doma lie to the south, with Ma-Abi and Adassus in their orbits. To the far west, the Mehna people have a thriving but distant coastal empire. The Oppa to the far north are their believed to be their relatives, and trade much more closely with Moru Kel (especially their large port of Kelcarn). In between are several remnants of the Gamaal: the peaceful Nawabe, the backward Bowok, and the Typori and Maal among many others.
- The Iswari are a high-mountain folk in the Burkhdyn Gazar mountains. Short in stature, the Iswari are a tough folk who are adapted to cold, brutal climes. They nonetheless have their own interesting culture. The halflings of Tarsha seem to be a related offshoot from the Spice Islands.
- The Mahksi are an ocean- and river- dwelling folk. Notably found on the southern edge of Kilpo Bay near Moru Kel, there are tales of other mahksi villages in lakes or in other safe harbors around the continent.
- Orcs are sometimes a sometimes brutish people who are honorable warriors and were valuable allies against the demons. They’re found to the north in the Akkur mountains and the Iza Mula, where their battles with the Gamaal and dwarves are legendary. Another large enclave lives in the Burkhdyn Gazar, where they seem to have become more acclimated to civilized norms.
Some remnants of the time of ravaging appear from time to time: most notably, fiendish and celestial bloodlines (“tieflings” and “aasimar”) sometimes arise among the various peoples, as do those (“genasi”) touched by one of the elements.
