Sala is one of the oldest and most powerful deities, along with Dawa and Skura — though worship of Skura is waning recently.
Sala and Dawa, together, are the parents of Aerta and Pashan. Sala is above most worldly concerns, though she was once known to travel the mortal realm and take lovers. Sala’s followers seek her notice, not easily earned. To be seen by Sala, you have to be exceptional.
Sala’s pleasure can bring balmy weather and strong growing seasons. Her wrath can result in droughts brought on by her blazing glare, or in rot due to weeks of her near absence. Sala is as important to agriculture as Aerta in Moru Kel, where her strong rays are needed to burn through the morning mists.
The broadbacks of Moru Kel also depend on Sala’s rays, like other saurians, and have been making their daily journey up to the Basking Rocks since the time of Skandara — and probably for centuries before. Reptiles and saurians are favored creatures of Sala, and the Domese call her “Burning Crocodile.” The elves have an ancient song that calls the sun “the Golden Dragon”.
In the transcendent peaks of the Burkhdyn Gazar, Sala is connected to cranes, geese, and vultures. Saffans represent her as a golden lion, like those that roam the plains to their north. Sala is also connected to gryphons, and she appears in the form of a gryphon in several of the old Urek tales.
Huezha: The Dawn Goddess of the Seta, also worshipped by the Bowok as the Dawn Warrior.
Festival of Fire: This festival in honor of Sala and Purnoz takes place on the Summer Solstice each year.
Offerings: Offerings are made when needing guidance, when making important decisions, when seeking protection by day, when acting on behalf of a just or divine cause, for the protection of a noble or just person, to defeat an unrighteous enemy, and to bring wrongs or lies to light.
