Week 2: A Visit to Glow

The White Gryphons woke in the morning, and watched Darvis (a tall, poor boy) get into a scuffle with Marsander Soza for picking on Bini. The Bronze, who’d been called in after Steward Carletta was attacked, separated them.

The group headed down to the Moon Dome, where they observed a bunch of wonders:

Ammon gave Aiden a small sphere that just looked like the sky initially (the next day it was raining inside it).

The group then saw that the Gryphon (no relation), a ship built in collaboration between Tarsha and Mezzi Island, had returned 12 hours sooner than the fastest record for the Tarsha run. It unloaded ice and crabs on the docks.

Kyamu had a vision from a shrine of Mir, a glowing figure saying “You have been chosen to serve the seas, to protect them and all within. Sooth the one who comes to you.” A bottle of soothing oil appeared in his hand.

Hummox Hartilla (Dyta’s father) defeated Dormango the Grappler in a long wrestling bout, then announced his retirement.

The kids snuck off to Glow that evening. Aiden had a vision of the club before it was a club, just a natural cavern from long ago with a gangly shadowy figure. The group met Haymus and Eddur Lango.

After ditching their bodyguards to go to a party, they were attacked in an alley by the shadowy figure attempting to kill Haymus: Kori was killed protecting him, and the grew slew a shadow mastiff (but not before it walked through Tobias, giving him unnatural chills and a feeling of internal unease). The figure left behind a Saffan fighting chain, with a heavy iron ball at one end and a spike at the other. Kada saw the figure’s face and fled in fear.

Officer Wattilchot and Officer Kirak arrived, the latter insisting on taking them into custody. Effi’s parents bailed her out but left the rest in the jail. Lore’s parents then bailed out the whole group, who met with Wattilchot and Inspector Pella at Olli’s. They met a Nawabe architect named Bowiri who seemed to be friends with Ollie and his wife Agna.

Pella interrogated everyone, and mentioned something about there being a conspiracy to undermine the Blue Lady.

Marghoz Lango arrived and met with Kori’s parents for a while, before talking with the group and offering them letters of introduction and pouches of gold; he also gave Kyamu a necklace with a rose quartz pendant on it.

The officers escorted everyone back to the island, where they talked with Carletta and determined that the weapon she’d been attacked with might have been the same Saffan fighting chain.

The group exchanged contact information and parted ways. Kyamu had another vision from a silhouetted figure with a curved kris blade, saying “Do you wish to know the secrets of the temple? Do you wish to have the power to defeat your enemies and bring fortune to your people? If you serve me, in due time you can have all that and more. A single sacrifice will bind us together to change the world . . . ”

Awakening beneath the waves with the kris in one hand and the oil in the other, Kyamu chose to spread the oil on the broadback’s itchy skin.
