Week 8: Party at the Viggen Manor

The party awoke at Rosalia’s, where Tobias told them all about the connection he’d made between the child laborers and Raymon’s Raiments. They decided to bring Sindra (at the Pearl) in on that intelligence. Aiden also gave his spider silk clothing to Huaychet, feeling it inappropriate to wear the fruits of child labor.

Following breakfast, they headed out to the Dormitory of Skura, where Zuri gave them invitations to Delayna Viggen’s debutante party; she was also going to send invitations to Effi, Kowara, and Saleen.

The group then headed over to Vachi’s Vestments, just across the street from Raymon’s. They met with Vachi, an affable and dapper bugbear with a handlebar mustache, and commissioned party clothes and tailoring/mending services from him. The group got a discount on their clothing in exchange for agreeing to distribute Vachi’s cards discreetly at the Viggen’s party.

Upon leaving the store, they ran into Caralon and Delayna Viggen coming out of Raymon’s with their new attire for the party: Delayna had a seizure, which Kyamu helped her get over. They explained that many of the Viggens suffered from seizures, but they had a doctor coming to deal with it permanently.

Following that, they met with Sindra and informed her of the shona wood sweatshop and the connection to Raymon’s; she gave them 50 gp as a reward and asked them to return with any similar intelligence in the future.

The party then succesfully managed a heist, stealing a bottle of Grimfang Vineyards Ianescan White from Laya’s Spirits. After picking up their clothes, they headed to the Viggen party.

At the party, they met several people:

A servant called them inside at Delayna’s request: apparently some vermin had escaped in the basement. The party found that some woodgrubs (large, maggot-like creatures with spiked maws) had burrowed out of the wood of several crates and had to be destroyed. Following the fight, they found that some of the vermin had bored their way through the cellar walls out of the house.

Delayna came in with a blue-robed woman from an order called the Swessora. Delayna explained that she’d had visions of these creatures a few nights ago, and periodically had visions: all Viggens do until they are “severed”, which ends both the visions and the seizures. But now that she knew the visions were real and not just hallucinations, she no longer wanted to be severed. Sister Brayda of the Swessora used a small earwig-like beetle to help stitch up one of Tobias’ wounds.

An eerie yet beautiful voice from the main floor drew the party back upstairs: Shandál, the Siren Singer was performing. Shandál was rumored to have been aboard a ship that a siren had brought to its doom, with all of the sailors drawn to its voice. Her music is based off the compelling and destructive songs of the siren.

Following her performance, Sahar Pellis presented his daughter to the crowd. Delayna announced that she did not want to be severed, and one of the Swessora cried out that it was too late: they’d already prepared the creature to feed and couldn’t constrain it! A huge scalpel beetle attacked, spewing acid and chomping furiously with its pincers. Kyamu, Tobias, Kowara, Aiden, and Haymus Lango engaged the creature in combat, as Brayda healed people the best she could: when the melee had ended, they’d saved Delayna. But Sahra Necatia Dagarswan lay dead on the floor.

Pellis drew his daughter upstairs, but offered the group a meeting in the morning (they were given his calling card to present at the door). The group, wounded and exhausted, adjourned to Aiden’s apartment to rest and recuperate.
