The group entered the Barn, a seedy bar/casino/gathering spot in Tressletown underneath New Typor city. After gambling at chipsy (a sort of “quarters-with-seeds” game) with some regulars, they spotted a man in the corner with black tear-track tattoos similar to those Itzal had. Knowing that these are a mark of a separatist group called the Salters, Errol approached him. Some tense conversation in which Itzal’s name was dropped resulted in an invitation to meet on Snuff Street the next day at noon. As he walked away from the table, Errol caught the scent of lamp oil on the man’s clothing.
Tobias went to bed while Errol sweet-talked a dancing girl, finding some information on some of the local crime bosses. Kyamu spotted the glow of fire on the horizon and investigated, finding that a ship was burning in the harbor. The group crashed for the night; upon awaking, they recieved a summons from Baron Aitor to meet them at noon. They headed over to the Kitchen where they met with young Etienne: he turned out to be the son of Itzal/Etienne, and gave them the name of Itzal’s woman in town (Clementine) as well as his krrf dealer (Sebastian). He told them that Yolianna was bad news, and if his father was wrapped up with her then that was not good. The Noobs promised to try to help make sure Itzal stopped doing drugs.
They then headed toward Snuff Street, encountering an eccentric artist named Fedlis Beaulais. Fedlis told Errol to listen for the bells, they would lead the way; he looked through his corn-cob telescope to see that Tobias had a darkness in his soul, while Kyamu had a golden aura near his. He gave Kyamu a painting of his soul: a red heart, with a golden border on one edge. The group traded him their dolphin-embroidered silk for a statue that had a pair of expensive and pristine-looking lorngettes (eyeglasses held by a long handle) on its face; the statue was otherwise made of broken pottery and other junk. Fedlis told them this was a statue of Pa-Johnny, the incarnation of nature and the one who rings the bells.
Wheeling the statue off, they abandoned it and took the glasses. Heading over early to Snuff Street, they scoped out the place and paid off a bartender to let them use her trap door. Tobias and Kyamu hid, while Errol waited for the meeting. As the meeting time approached, they spotted someone baiting a crocodile to attack as 3 Salters approached: a battle ensued, and they found that the bartender had betrayed them and locked the door. They defeated the enemies, taking their spellcaster hostage and fleeing into the tall grass as the guards approached. Interrogating the Salter they found little new other than that Itzal had fled with Alcibaud, but he did reinforce the names of Clementine and Sebastian.
The group set off for the meeting with the Baron.
